Welcome & Respect Our Amish Neighbors

A new Amish community has recently settled in our area, and we ask the public to exercise heightened caution on local roads due to the presence of horse-drawn buggies. These vehicles move slowly, typically at 5-10 mph, and may not always have reflective markings or lights, making them less visible, especially at dawn, dusk, or in poor weather. Be mindful of buggies on road shoulders, as they often travel along the edge of the roadway.
To ensure safety:
- **Reduce speed** when approaching buggies, especially on narrow or winding roads.
- **Maintain a safe distance** to avoid startling horses, which can be unpredictable.
- **Pass with care**, ensuring ample clearance (at least 3-5 feet) and only when it’s safe to do so.
- **Stay alert** for pedestrians, as Amish community members may also walk or bike along shoulders.
New signage, including “Horse and Buggy” warning signs, will be installed in the coming weeks to enhance visibility and awareness. We appreciate your patience and cooperation in keeping our roads safe for everyone.
